School Games Silver Award Achieved!

We are delighted to announce that we have achieved the School Games Silver Mark Award for the 2017/18 academic  year.

The School Games Mark is a Government led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

Our sporting achievements this year include:

  • Our very successful cross-country runners
  • The new fencing team
  • The successes of our archery team
  • Running club completing the Shrewsbury Half Marathon for schools
  • Haughmond’s Daily Mile challenge
  • The Christmas Truce football tournament

We are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible.

As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.

Shropshire Sings

On Wednesday 11th July, our choir went to the West Mid Showground to take part in the Shropshire Sings concert along with other primary schools from all over Shropshire. After practising all afternoon, the concert took place in the evening and our choir sang their hearts out. It was a fabulous evening and the children did our school proud.

Afterwards, the choir described it as being “fun” and “amazing,” and they are already looking forward to next year’s concert.

Year 3 Visit to Birmingham

On Tuesday 5th June, Year Three visited Birmingham. First, we went to Singers Hill Synagogue, which was amazing! We learnt lots about Jewish life and why a synagogue is such a special place. After that, we had a walk through Birmingham city centre and some of us were really surprised at how different it is to Bomere Heath and Shrewsbury. Lastly, we visited Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery to take part in an Anglo-Saxon archaeology workshop. We found out about the Staffordshire Hoard and took part in some archaeological activities, such as soil testing, metal detecting and cleaning artefacts. In the words of Leon, the day got a “five out of five star” review!

Science Day!

Today we have been enjoying Science Day. We have taken part in lots of different activities including:

Making slime to explore changing states

Creating cress heads to learn about plants

Making colour spinners to find out about how we see colour

Testing the materials to make an astronaut’s nappy to learn about absorbency

Homework – 18th May 2018

This week your homework is in two parts.

First, I would like you to access Education City and complete the tasks that are on there. They should be accessible on tablet and computer, but please come and tell me if your login doesn’t work, or you have another problem.

Second, next week we are writing our own quest stories. I would like you to start thinking of some ideas of where your quest might take you, who you might meet, and any objects you might need.

Please also remember to keep practicing your spellings and times tables.
