Autumn Term Prayer
We see signs of summer’s passing in golden leaves,
shortening days, misty mornings, autumn glow.
We sense its passing in rain that dampens,
winds that chill, Harvest’s bounty placed on show.
Creator God, who brings forth
both green shoot and hoar frost,
sunrise and sunset,
we bring our thanks
for seeds that have grown,
harvests gathered,
storehouses filled,
mouths fed.
And, as your good earth rests
through winter’s cold embrace,
we look forward to its re-awakening
when kissed by Spring’s first touch.
Amen
Stars of the Half Term
Well done to the Star of the Half Term winners!
#wakeupwednesday Five Nights at Freddy’s
You might know Five Nights at Freddy’s by reputation, even if your child has never actually played the game. Via playground rumours and circulated footage on platforms like YouTube, this 12-rated survival horror series (so far comprising nine games, several spin-off novels and a movie adaptation) has become possessed of a certain cult status among far younger players.
Whether the initial interest is sparked by peer pressure or curiosity, this spooky saga of things that go bump in the night seems to resonate with many pre-teen gamers. However, as this #WakeUpWednesday guide explains, the sinister characters, unrelenting sense of tension and some disturbing themes are all potential hazards that parents and carers should be aware of.
Helping children cope with difficult events in the news
Over the last few years there have been several worrying stories in the news. Indeed, we regularly watch Newsround in school to ensure that children are getting a balanced view of world news at an age-appropriate level, as well as enjoying the positive, good news stories that appear every day! Now there are also so many ways of children experiencing the news today (radio, via their mobile phones, on TV and even on screens in waiting rooms!)
Here is a guide which has been recommended to us that might hep you manage your child’s feelings and anxieties about the news. It is suitable for children at home and at school.

Stay Safe This Autumn
Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service is urging you and you family to stay safe this Bonfire Night and Halloween.
There are several ways you can ensure your family is safe while enjoying bonfires, fireworks and trick or treating.
We advise you to visit an organised event rather than having a bonfire or setting off fireworks yourselves, however if you do decide to celebrate at home please take a lot our advice for safe handling of fireworks and bonfires here http://www.shropshirefire.gov.uk/campaign/bonfire-and-firework-safety.
If you’re concerned about teaching your children the dangers of fireworks, or not sure what to do if your child suffers a burn or scolded, the child Accident protection Trust (CAPT) has some great advice and you find a host of information on their website https://capt.org.uk/lessons-for-little-ones/
#wakeupwednesday EA Sports Football 24
For 20 years, FIFA dominated the football video gaming arena, attracting legions of devoted fans and scooping up accolades like a digital Real Madrid. After parting ways with the sport’s governing body, however, renowned developers Electronic Arts (EA) have now launched their own individual bid for the title. It’s called EA Sports FC 24, and its effectively FIFA 2.0.
Familiar action delivered by the same team, of course, points to a comparable level of popularity – especially among those young gamers raised on the FIFA franchise. As our #WakeUpWednesday guide highlights, however, EA Sports FC 24 also carries many similar risks to its predecessor, including addictive gameplay, abusive voice chats and expensive in-game purchases.
