Today, to mark the end of our learning about The Great Fire of London, we built our own city with the houses that we designed and made in DT. We made sure that the houses were close together, just like they were in London in 1666, and we put our own St. Paul’s in the middle of the ‘city’. Then, Kris set our city on fire! It was very exciting! We watched how the flames travelled from house to house, and finally to our cathedral in the middle. It was very dramatic when it finally collapsed!

Harvest Festival
Today, all the children had the opportunity to visit Leaton Church to take part in our Harvest Festival. It was lovely to be able to be back in church and take part in the service along with Rev Hannah Lins.
The classes each performed their own harvest song that they have learnt in their music lessons with Mrs Kessel-Fell this half term. Grinshill, Stiperstones and Wrekin also shared some more of their learning about harvest around the world and sharing a recipe for harvest, along with sharing some poems and prayers that they had written.
Thank you for all the generous donations that you sent in with your children.
Notes from the music room
Notes from the Music Room 5
It’s been an exciting week teaching music for Mrs. Kessel-Fell and Mrs. Roberson. Mrs. Kessel-Fell has enjoyed rehearsing your harvest songs with you and hearing you sing with such enthusiasm. She was also very pleased to welcome new members to choir. Everyone sang very well and whilst learning ‘Ol Town Road’ and ‘Shotgun’ to add to choir’s repertoire. Well done and members are always welcome!
Mrs. Roberson was very pleased to see how many pbuzz instruments would be going home soon. Any children with permission and suitable bag for it took their pbuzz home on Thursday, so hopefully you’ll have heard them in action! For the children that didn’t have a suitable bag can bring one in next week to take theirs home, either fabric or a sturdy plastic bag is fine. If you haven’t returned a permission slip and would like your child to bring the instrument home, please speak to the school office.
Grinshill, Stiperstones and Wrekin all worked hard to continue to learn to play a piece of music and Music Community Group are steadily learning ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Harry Potter, Hedwigs Theme’ as well as working as a group to improvise individual solos as part of a Blues performance. Excellent work from all involved!
Open the Book Worship – 12th October 2021
Here is the link to the Open the Book worship that we have shared in school with the children this week.
Visit to Aston Hall
On Friday we visited Aston Hall in Birmingham as part of our learning about fire this term. We explored the house and took part in a workshop all about the Great Fire of London. We dressed up as some of the important people from the story, including Thomas Farriner and Samuel Pepys. We also learnt to write with a quill, in the same way that Pepys would have written in his diary. We had a great time!
Netball News!
We want to say well done to our Y5/6 netball team for their participation in the recent Corbet Netball Tournament.
A team of boys and girls did very well indeed, finishing just two points behind the eventual winners.
We are hoping to compete in several more sports competitions soon, including tag rugby and cross country!
Dogs Trust Visit
Alison from the Dogs Trust, based at Roden, came to visit KS2 classes today. She taught the children many ideas about maintaining safety around dogs. Pupils in Wrekin, Stiperstones and Grinshill talked through scenarios and situations and found out how to interact with dogs in various places.
