In the summer term we wrote letters to HRH King Charles III to celebrate his Coronation. This week we were very excited to receive a thank you card from the King and Queen. We will frame the card and display it in school for everyone to see.
School News
Remembrance
Pupils in Upper KS2 today experienced the Royal British Legion and the National Literacy Trust in a live interactive assembly, inspiring children to explore and take part in Remembrance. This event brought together art, music, poetry, veteran interviews and more to create a unique, interactive, live-streamed experience helping students understand why we continue to remember.
We did a two-minute silence at 11am alongside thousands of pupils from other schools, who had also joined the event.

A Message from Reverend Hannah
Dear Friends,
As we approach Remembrance Sunday (12th November), I thought I’d let you know of our services around Severn Loop. Please note the earlier start time at Bicton and Shrawardine, and the Festival of Remembrance at Fitz (to which all are warmly invited). You are most welcome at any of our services.
9am- Bomere (Holy Communion with an Act of Remembrance)
9.30am- Montford (Holy Communion with an Act of Remembrance)
10.45am- Bicton– A Service of Remembrance, led by Steve Jones (Padre of our local branch of the Royal British Legion)
10.45am- Leaton– A Service of Remembrance, with the local Scouts in attendance, followed by Acts of Remembrance at the War Memorial and Preston Gubbals
10.50am- Shrawardine– A Service of Remembrance
5.30pm- Fitz– A Festival of Remembrance with the Yeoman Singers
Many of our churches have beautiful poppy displays to mark the occasion. At Montford, there is Poppy Path set up in the churchyard- do go along and see it. Here is a (rather windswept!) video of it as well:
Finally, in Bomere Heath there will be an Act of Remembrance at 11am on Saturday, 11th November, outside the Methodist Chapel- do gather there about ten minutes before.

Year 5 Play Leader Training
Year 5 pupils today have undergone Play Leader Training with Mrs Johnson to help the younger pupils play at break and lunchtimes. They will have a rota and lead games and play with Pimhill and Haughmond pupils.
The children were amazing today, it was lovely to see them taking the lead and teaching the younger ones new games.
KS1 Reader of the Half Term
Well done to Bella who has been nominated by our Year 5 Reading Ambassadors for her amazing reading.
Autumn Term Prayer
We see signs of summer’s passing in golden leaves,
shortening days, misty mornings, autumn glow.
We sense its passing in rain that dampens,
winds that chill, Harvest’s bounty placed on show.
Creator God, who brings forth
both green shoot and hoar frost,
sunrise and sunset,
we bring our thanks
for seeds that have grown,
harvests gathered,
storehouses filled,
mouths fed.
And, as your good earth rests
through winter’s cold embrace,
we look forward to its re-awakening
when kissed by Spring’s first touch.

You might know Five Nights at Freddy’s by reputation, even if your child has never actually played the game. Via playground rumours and circulated footage on platforms like YouTube, this 12-rated survival horror series (so far comprising nine games, several spin-off novels and a movie adaptation) has become possessed of a certain cult status among far younger players.
Whether the initial interest is sparked by peer pressure or curiosity, this spooky saga of things that go bump in the night seems to resonate with many pre-teen gamers. However, as this #WakeUpWednesday guide explains, the sinister characters, unrelenting sense of tension and some disturbing themes are all potential hazards that parents and carers should be aware of.
Helping children cope with difficult events in the news
Over the last few years there have been several worrying stories in the news. Indeed, we regularly watch Newsround in school to ensure that children are getting a balanced view of world news at an age-appropriate level, as well as enjoying the positive, good news stories that appear every day! Now there are also so many ways of children experiencing the news today (radio, via their mobile phones, on TV and even on screens in waiting rooms!)
Here is a guide which has been recommended to us that might hep you manage your child’s feelings and anxieties about the news. It is suitable for children at home and at school.

End of Term Updates
Just a few updates for you all:
Family Film Night
We have started to sell tickets for our family film night (showing Hotel Transylvania) next Wednesday 25th October from 5:00pm, £5.00 for a family of four. Pop into the office to buy your tickets.
Harvest Service
We have our Harvest Service next Wednesday 25th October at 10:00am we are looking forward to seeing you all at Leaton Church. Please remember to bring a donation for the food bank please, so we can pass this on to them. We would appreciate it if you could please make a donation towards the transport for the Harvest Service of £3.00 per child. You can find it in the payments section.
Parents Afternoon / Evening
Next Monday 23rd October we are having our drop in sessions for parents to look at children’s work and books, from 1:30pm to 3:00pm and 3:30pm to 5:30pm. We are looking forward to seeing you all. As previously mentioned a more formal parents evening with appointments to discuss your child’s work will be held in the Spring term.
Outstanding Balances
If you have any outstanding payments to be made for school lunches, breakfast and / or after school clubs etc we would appreciate it if you could please settle these and make payment next week before the half term break.
Missing School Uniform
Several parents have said that they are missing their children’s school uniform, we all know how expensive it is so if you could please have a check through this weekend and bring anything back that has been brought home by mistake we would appreciate it.
Non School Uniform Day
On Friday 27th October we are having a non school uniform day please send your children in seasonal coloured clothing, and we would appreciate it if you could bring in a donation for a non perishable item that can put in the Christmas hampers.
Autumn Half Term Break
Next Friday 27th October is the last day before the half term break. It has been a long term and we are very proud of the children who have worked very hard, we hope that you all have a relaxing half term. Monday 6th November is a PD Day, so we will look forward to seeing the children on Tuesday 7th November 2023.
