Homework – Grinshill class – Friday 28th September 2018
This is a project that will take a couple of weeks I want them handed in on Thursday 18th October 2018.
I would like you to build ‘Stone Henge’ on a smaller scale.
You can use any material you like, clay, stones, cardboard or anything else you like.
But it must look like Stone Henge. You will need to do some research on your computer, or we have some books in school to help too.
The children have images in their books to show how it used to look and how it looks now.
I will leave it up to you which model you want to build.
I will still expect spellings, times table and reading to be done too.
Grinshill Class
On Thursday 27th September we will be going on our class trip, so to help us get ready I would like you to do some research.
English
Maths
Can practice your times tables for a test next week?
Year 2 – 2 times table only
Year 3 – 4 times table only
Reading
It is so important that you are reading with your child for at least 10 minutes a night at least 5 days a week.
Spellings
Can you practice these for their test each Monday morning please. Please use the Look, cover, write, check method that we are using in class. If you are not sure call in to see Mrs Roberts.
Both Mrs Foster and Mrs Roberts are being trained as ‘Teaching for Mastery’ maths teachers. This is a hugely successful approach to teaching and delivering maths to children. It originated in China, which as a country has the worlds most successful mathematicians. It is still being developed across the UK, and we are very excited to be part of this project.
The maths that the children will see in these classrooms may look a little different to what they are used to. It does not require pages and pages of repeating sums, but to understand why they are doing it, what they know about it, how to explain the reasoning and how they can use that knowledge in other areas of mathematics.
If you have any queries that you want to discuss with either teacher please let them know.
Sometimes there are unaccompanied animals that appear outside the school and occasionally enter the school grounds. As much as these animals look cute, we ask that you are vigilant with your children and encourage them not to approach them or attempt to stroke them. They may become distressed or worried and could bite, scratch or frighten your children.
Thank you for your support in this matter.

Grinshill have started painting like cavemen. They have looked at lots of actual paintings from the Lascaux Caves in France and today they have had a go at painting in caveman style.
