Spellings in Grinshill – w/c Tuesday 20th September 2022
This week we are concentrating on spelling rules.
- If the verb ends in two consonant letters the endings -ed and -ing are simply added on. eg. ask asked asking.
- If the final two letters are a single vowel followed by a sing consonant, double the last consonant before adding -ed or -ing. e.g. pat = patted/ patting or stop = stopped/ stopping, rub = rubbed/ rubbing , flap = flapped/ flapping, nod = nodded/ nodding.
- The y is changed to an ‘i’ before adding -ed BUT NOT -ing. e.g. reply= replied/ replying. spy = spied/ spying, marry = married/ marrying, fancy = fancied/ fancying, study = studied/ studying, worry = worried/ worrying.
- The -e at the end of the root word is dropped before adding -ing or -ed. e.g. bare = baring/ bared, care= caring/ cared, doze = dozing/ dozed, move = moving/ moved, place = placing/ placed, prove = proving/ proved, stare = staring/ stared.
The children will be practising these over the week, with a mini test on Friday. A selection of ten will be sent home to practise.

Grinshill Autumn Term – Welcome Back
Welcome back everyone!
.I hope you have all had an enjoyable summer and are looking forward to the Autumn term.
This term our topic is ‘The Ancient Maya’. We have a trip booked (Letter will be out shortly). I have included an overview of all subjects we are covering this term.

There will be a big focus on times tables. This week we are revisiting x2, x5 and x10 with corresponding division facts. If you would like to practise at home you can use TT Rockstars or follow this link for speedy tables.

I am conducting reading tests today and tomorrow so that you child can have the correct book level.
PE – Days are Tuesday and Thursday

Grinshill Arts Week
This week has been ‘Arts Week’ this year our theme was commonwealth countries. We chose the Caribbean island of St Kitts. We did also include some Egyptian topic of the Eye of Horus.
The children have drawn flags and combined with a collage.
The children then drew and made traditional Caribbean festival masks.

Grinshill Class _ Design Technology Project
This term the children have been designing their own pyramids in their books and using Computer aided design.
Next week, they will be making their designs. They have each chosen what they want to make it out of. So, they will be asking you for some items.
If anyone has any spare cardboard could they please bring into class before Friday.

Welcome Back!

Ukranian Appeal
Thank you so much for all the kind donations we have received in school.
The children have been making sunflowers and sending their thoughts and prayers to the people of Ukraine.
Mariana, who visited the children with Oxanna in school this week will be collecting today. Oxanna will then drive all our goodies across Europe to where they are most in need.

Grinshill Class – Comic Relief Day
Some very happy children today in class – wearing clothes that make them feel happy.

In art this last half term, the children were using the medium of clay and other materials to make a visual 3D model of the River Severn loop in Leighton, Shropshire.
