This week, Haughmond were visited by Hannah from Shrewsbury Museums and took part in a workshop to enrich our learning about Charles Darwin and why he is a significant person in history. We explored timelines using a range of artefacts, learnt about his life and work and made observations in his style using quill and ink! We really enjoyed our morning and learnt a lot of facts!
Please find attached the link to the Shropshire SEND Newsletter containing information for families of SEND children.

Today in Haughmond we had a visit from Lisa who runs Shropshire Falconry at Battlefield. She brought 5 different owls with her to launch our English topic, based on the book The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark. We learnt lots of facts about owls and were lucky enough to hold either Chris or Sid the owls. Biscuit, the long eared owl, flew over our heads to show how quietly owls are able to fly. One of the owls, Severus, was a black barn owl, which we found especially interesting, but our class favourite was Solo, the great horned owl who could wave hello and goodbye!
This week for your homework I have sent home with you number formation sheets and a times tables mosaic. There are 90 questions on the mosaic so you don’t have to do it all at once!
Over half term, please keep up with your reading and Times Tables Rockstars if you use it. Also, here is the link to the punctuation superheroes game we looked at in English today. https://www.bbc.co.uk/games/embed/small-town-superheroes?exitGameUrl=https%3A%2F%2Fbbc.co.uk%2Fbitesize%2Farticles%2Fzncgvk7
On Friday, Haughmond went for a visit to the Ironworks in Oswestry to learn all about different sculpture as part of our art topic. We found the extinction trail particularly interesting and enjoyed learning facts about all the animals. We discovered that lots of the sculptures had been made from scrap materials, and tried to identify all the parts we could see. We really liked the enormous gorilla made from car parts and were especially impressed by Hulk and the Transformer sculptures. We are going to use our learning to support and inspire our art work back in school.
