Today Haughmond and Pimhill were very excited to welcome two new members of our school community. Sheldon and Michelle are our new Giant African Land Snails and they will be living with us in our classes, where we will learn lots about them, including how to look after them and take responsibility for living creatures.

Homework 28th January 2022
Today in class we have been thinking about how we could welcome Caleb, the refugee in our story, to the UK. For homework this week I think it would be nice for you to write a welcome message to a real refugee arriving in the UK.
You can do this at Refugee Council Welcome Messages
If you would like to, you can take a screenshot or copy and paste your message and send it into school so that I can see it too.

Notes from the Music Room 14, 28 January 2022
This week we’ve really embraced what being a musician is all about. Singing has been confident and enthusiastic, choir welcomed new members and all left their session with smiles on their faces and a spring in their step. Key stage 2 learnt to compose fanfares on their pbuzz and recorders in their lesson outside in the sun with Wrekin and Grinshill learning to perform their fanfares as part of a marching band in the ball park showing their teamwork and coordination. Music Community Group also welcomed new members and learnt about Samba music. The group put together a performance of Seven Nation Army Samba. Along with this, children have also been enjoying their individual instrumental lessons to continue to build on their skills. Well done everyone and thank you for your hard work!

Notes from the Music Room 13
The music room has been very busy this week, with Mrs. Kessel-Fell teaching music links to class topics. Pimhill are learning about the Islands of the world and their cultures and music. Haughmond are enjoying holidays and sounds of the sea. Grinshill are studying the music of USA, Stiperstones are exploring the music of Eastern Europe and Wrekin are discovering the Music of the Mayan culture. Please ask your children to tell you what exciting things they’ve learnt about.
Last term was Mrs. Alston’s last term teaching at Bomere Heath due to her expanding teaching commitments, however she has left with fond memories of the dedicated pupils she taught and their excellent performances at the end of each term. Taking over from Mrs. Alston is Mr. Morris, who is an experienced piano teacher and clarinetist. He has recently moved to Shropshire and is settling into teaching in this area. If you are interested in learning to play the piano, Mr. Morris has availability and would be pleased to teach more Bomere Heath pupils. Please contact Shropshire Music Service for more information.
Mrs. Roberson continued to work with classes on their composition challenge for this term. Each class continued to learn how to read pitch and rhythm, composing short melodies using particular notes. Stiperstones and Wrekin also demonstrated dynamics on their pbuzz whilst playing their composed melodies. The challenge will continue next week!
Choir and Music Community Group are starting again next week. Mrs. Kessel-Fell and Mrs. Roberson are looking forward to seeing some existing members and hopefully new members too. Please see Mrs. Winwood to sign up for either club.

Happy New Year from Shropshire Music Service. We all hope that you enjoyed the Christmas Showcase film sent out in the last week of term. We all enjoyed learning, rehearsing and filming pieces for it and are looking forward to many more showcase in the future.
This week saw the start of music lessons with Mrs.Kessel-Fell and Mrs. Roberson. Mrs. Roberson has begun composing music with Grinshill, Stiperstones and Wrekin and enjoying listening to the lovely patterns that the children made up. Making our own music is the theme for this term and a small number of Grinshill even started to write down compositions in music notation for Mrs. Roberson to perform on the recorder, well done to those involved!
Choir and Music Community Group will be starting again in a couple of weeks and we are looking forward to learning new music as well as performing pieces previously learnt. As always, new members to the clubs are welcome. Music Community Group will be starting with a Samba fusion session so very percussive, loud and fun!
1-minute Maths
1-minute Maths is a super new free app for children in Key Stage One from White Rose Maths.
Children can choose any topic they want to try. They then answer a unique series of questions (so it’s a different set of questions every time). If they’re struggling with a question, a ‘Hint’ button will give a helpful clue by showing the question in a different but familiar way.
When the one minute’s up, they’ll see a feedback screen telling them how they’ve done.
Check out these 7 top reasons for using 1-Minute Maths!
- Excellent practice – and no distractions.
- A clear, intuitive process that children pick up straight away.
- No login or internet access needed. Just download and play.
- Enjoyable and motivating… How many can they get correct in one minute?
- Helpful hints match those used in class.
- Brilliant for building number fluency and confidence.
- It’s FREE!
Visit from Imam Sohayb
Today Pimhill and Haughmond were visited by Imam Sohayb from Craven Arms Mosque to help us with our learning in our R.E. topic where our key question is Who is Muslim and How do They Live? He told us lots of information and we asked some excellent questions to help our understanding and compared Islam and Christianity.
