Spag Monsters

This week your children will bring home a log in for SPAG MONSTERS.

We are trialling this, so would be great to know what you think.

The children were excited when I showed them today. It will help them with spellings, grammar and punctuation.

Spellings

It was lovely to chat to so many of you on Monday at parent meetings. Many of you asked how you can help at home. So we have attached the spellings lists from year one up to year six. These are words the children should know at the different age groups. It would be great if you could look at these words with your children. Would be good revision to do the year one and year two words as well as the harder ones.

Ideas to help you practise:

Look cover write check

Mnemonics = for example: because – big elephants can always understand small elephants

Break the word up using different colours

Word searches

Write the words in sentences

All these ways the children have learnt at school.

We will be using these words for future tests, so it will be great practise to pick a few words each week to try and learn.

Thank you

Stiperstones Spellings

As a school we are using a new scheme for our spellings. This links to our writing and reading we already do in school. We complete lessons throughout the week using a new set of spellings. This consists of strategies to help learn the tricky words, games and sentence work to put the words into context.

We will still have weekly spellings for the children to practise at home, however these won’t be tested in the same way as before.

Please support your child in learning these words. Thank you
