In these worrying times, here is a lovely, short and simple story to help us all, but especially our pupils:

Sorry that some parents did not see the board on the playground last Tuesday to say thank you for my lovely Christmas gifts.
So,
Thank you so much for all the lovely Christmas present that I received from you, they were very much appreciated.

Grinshill Class Spring Term Topic
Happy New Year!
This term our topic is ‘Frozen Planet’. We will be looking in detail at the North and South Poles. We will look at the people, food and animals that live in Antarctica and The Arctic. We will look at the brave men and women who have journeyed to the polar regions and famous explorers such as Shackleton and Scott. We will look at the geographical landscapes of these frozen polar areas.
In science we are looking at forces and magnets and later in the term rocks.
In D&T the children will be learning how to make their own warming soups.
In English and maths we will continue to follow the spiral curriculum.
It looks to be a very exciting term.
Grinshill’s Trip to Liverpool World Museum
On Friday we had an amazing day out to Liverpool World Museum. These are some of the amazing photos.

We mummified a tomato
In Grinshill class today, we mummified a tomato. The children had to scoop out the insides, fill with hay, cover with scented oil, roll in salt then finally wrap in layers of linen.
Messy! Messy! Messy!
Weather in Grinshill
This week we started our new topic in science ‘Weather’. We have bought a weathervane and will be taking daily temperatures and recording how much rainfall we receive. We will be making comparisons to the weather in Egypt as this is part of our topic.

Harvest Service
Today, we held a very successful Harvest Service at Leaton Church. Each class dedicated time in recent weeks to thinking about our theme: God’s world.
On Climate Action Day, pupils considered what is important to them in the world and how we can all look after it. This work fed into their ideas for the Harvest Service.
Pimhill and Haughmond sang about recycling and made models out of ‘rubbish’ that can now be played with! Grinshill talked about how they could look after the world, including writing some fantastic poems. Stiperstones and Wrekin researched all kinds of environmental issues and how we/they can help save the planet, as well as writing some very thoughtful prayers.
All in all, we are very proud of the work, ideas, prayers and promises the pupils created – it was truly their service!
Finally, we would like to thank all of the parents, carers, friends and family who came along to share the Service. Reverend Hannah Lins, the congregation and the staff at school would also like to say thank you for the generous donations to the food bank in Shrewsbury.
Dear Lord. Thank you for Harvest time when we can share with those less fortunate than us and remember how to love God’s world. Amen (Prayer written by Clementine, Y6)
Times Tables Rockstars
We have again subscribed to Times Tables Rockstars to help the pupils’ quick recall of their times tables. At the moment, we are using it with the older pupils (Key Stage 2) but will roll it into Key Stage 1 in the coming months.
Your KS2 child has a login and can access the online resource to play games and test themselves against the clock for all times tables from x1 up to x12.
They receive rewards in the game, which they can then redeem to ‘buy’ new features for their ‘avatar’.As they continue to improve their speed and accuracy, they move from being a ‘Rookie’ band member to an ‘International Rock Star’ – it is very engaging and the feedback has been excellent from the pupils!
