On Monday 27th January we celebrated Australia Day in order to raise money for people and animals affected by the bushfires. We learnt all about Koalas and also did some amazing aboriginal style dot paintings!

Telephones
In our Science lessons we have been learning about inventors and engineers who changed the world. We found out about Alexander Graham Bell and how he created the telephone. We made string telephones and tested them. 
Riotous Royals Curriculum Overview Spring 2020
This term Haughmond will be learning about the history of Britain’s Kings and Queens, and looking at key figures right up to the present day.
Visit from Imam Sohayb
Today Imam Sohayb from Church Stretton Mosque came to talk to us about life as a Muslim and answer our questions. He told us about his daily life and also showed us artefacts like the Qur’an and his prayer mat. We learnt lots about what his faith means to him and how it helps him.
Nativity Activity!
We would like to say a big well done to the Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 pupils who this week have performed their Nativity to their parents! Each performance has been fantastic – some excellent singing, acting and dancing! And who could forget the wonderful costumes?
We would also like to say thank you to all of the parents, carers, family members and friends of the school who have attended the performances and assisted in costumes, props and getting children ready for the shows!
We look forward to more of the same next year!
London’s Burning by Haughmond
In our D&T lessons we have been making models of houses from 1666.
Today, before lunch, we set up our houses close together, like they were in London in 1666. Kris came to help us burn them down like the Great Fire of London.
The burning started slowly but got quicker, and in the end all that was left was some of the wooden frames and a big pile of ash all over the fire area!
Harrison said that it was a “super good” activity and Crystal said that she was “really excited to do the burning.”

Children in Need
Today we have all been learning about the work of Children in Need and some of the projects they support. We began our day by joining in with Joe Wicks’ Big Morning Move, along with 5300 other schools from all over the country, and learnt about some of the projects he has been involved in with Children in Need.

Harvest Service
Today, we held a very successful Harvest Service at Leaton Church. Each class dedicated time in recent weeks to thinking about our theme: God’s world.
On Climate Action Day, pupils considered what is important to them in the world and how we can all look after it. This work fed into their ideas for the Harvest Service.
Pimhill and Haughmond sang about recycling and made models out of ‘rubbish’ that can now be played with! Grinshill talked about how they could look after the world, including writing some fantastic poems. Stiperstones and Wrekin researched all kinds of environmental issues and how we/they can help save the planet, as well as writing some very thoughtful prayers.
All in all, we are very proud of the work, ideas, prayers and promises the pupils created – it was truly their service!
Finally, we would like to thank all of the parents, carers, friends and family who came along to share the Service. Reverend Hannah Lins, the congregation and the staff at school would also like to say thank you for the generous donations to the food bank in Shrewsbury.

Positive Pals and Negative Nags!
In our PSHE lesson today we were learning about how our mindset has an impact on how we feel and sometimes on how we learn. We found out about two types of people, positive pals and negative nags, and thought about how each type of person may act. We talked about how we can be a positive pals for our own learning and for our classmates and strategies for when we are stuck or finding things difficult.
