Hi everyone! I am proud to publish my Newshound Club’s first issue of their school newspaper – The Bomere Beagle.
A dedicated group of Year 5 and 6 pupils have been working hard to explore and write news stories about our school. They will publish the newspaper every few weeks throughout the year.
We hope you enjoy reading it and if you have a story for them, please let us know!

Today we are launching our ‘Reading Challenge’ and this time we have linked your child’s reading to several journeys around the world.
It’s not that easy to travel at the moment but we are thinking about people all over the world. Why not read your way around the world with the Reading Miles Global Challenge.
Collect 500 reading miles for every 30 minutes you spend reading, with a parent, carer, or your brother or sister. You could even video call your relatives and read aloud to them. You just need a signature, amount of time read and time you read at. Collect reading miles in a special reading passport on your very own reading world tour – a whopping 33,000 miles in total! Reading counts between 8am and 7pm.
The challenge is split into seven journeys, each of which finishes in a ‘checkpoint city’.
The following resources are available to download and print off to enable you to take part in the challenge.
• A wall map of the world charting the Reading Miles Global Challenge route
• A passport to record the reading
• A certificate for when you complete the challenge
• Postcards which you can complete when you reach checkpoint cities.
• All children that complete the each journey challenge will have their names entered into the draw to win the reading challenge box of goodies. Complete all 7 journeys and you will have 7 entries, so a much better chance of winning.

Alison from the Dogs Trust, based at Roden, came to visit KS2 classes today. She taught the children many ideas about maintaining safety around dogs. Pupils in Wrekin, Stiperstones and Grinshill talked through scenarios and situations and found out how to interact with dogs in various places.

Today we looked at the rock process and how Sedimentary, Igneous and Metamorphic rocks are made using the medium of chocolate.
The children had a great lesson, and got to sample their rocks too.

As you may know, Clubs commenced this week!
After a hiatus due to the pandemic, we are so pleased to start up our fantastic clubs again! The staff are delighted to welcome pupils after school and at lunch times to their respective clubs.
Please be assured that we are taking additional precautions such as extra cleaning, adults wearing face masks and keeping pupils from different classes separate during the club. We will continually review this.
Clubs we are running: netball, newshounds, colour and chat, felt, cross-stitch, choir, music, Young Voices, book club….and more!
If you wish your child to participate, please enquire in the school office!

In English we are continuing to read our book ‘The Seal Surfer’
We are writing 3 paragraphs today about the build-up to the accident.
Paragraph 1 – Before the accident – the boy having fun, chatting with his friends, showing cool surf moves.
Paragraph 2 – The accident – Surfing with seal, fell off, sank into water, crashed on rocks, rescued seals.
Paragraph 3 – After the accident – Felt relieved, felt safe, grateful to seal, amazed, friends for life, friends worried, felt fine, carried on surfing.

There are several reasons why you need to start a new paragraph.
In the Seal Surfer, so far we have learnt the following. There were some bad gales and storms during the winter, the old man and the boy thought the seal pup had died, until the boy started surfing in the summer. The seal pup loved surfing alongside the boy and they surfed each day together. Until, one day there was an accident, the boy fell off his surfboard and fell into the water and bumped his head on the rocks.
Can you write a couple of paragraphs based on the five times a paragraph would change? Include the facts in the story so far, to include conversations between the characters. This could be the grandad, the boy, the boy’s friends on the beach. Maybe the boy talks to the seal.
Science
In class we are going to looking at rocks again, but this time describing the properties and conducting some simple tests.
Can you find some different rocks in your garden 3 or 4 would be good. Also the following;
List the rocks by description, then test them for;
Then you can write a short paragraph to explain your findings.
